Canreach Global
Spain Golden Visa: Closed to New Applicants
Spain's investor residence route ended on 3 April 2025. Canreach Global works with three Spanish routes that remain open: the digital nomad visa, the entrepreneur residence authorisation and the working visa.

Led by a Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultant
Spain's former investor residence program, known internationally as the Spain Golden Visa, closed to new applications on 3 April 2025. There is no new Spanish investor visa to apply for in 2026, and any offer presenting one is out of date. Spain itself is still open to you. The useful question now is whether the digital nomad visa, the entrepreneur residence authorisation or the working visa fits your professional and family circumstances, and that is the assessment we run with you.

The closure
What changed and when
Spain's investor residence provisions sat in Law 14/2013, the entrepreneurs law, at Articles 63 to 67. Those articles were repealed for new applications with effect from 3 April 2025 by Organic Law 1/2025. The articles were left without content, which means the investor framework no longer exists rather than being paused or narrowed.
The repeal covered the framework as a whole. The property purchase route that the program was best known for ended at the same time as the bond, share, fund and business-project routes. There is no reduced-threshold version and no replacement investor category.
This matters because the Spain Golden Visa is still widely advertised. Pages, brochures and intermediaries continue to quote the former EUR 500,000 property threshold as though you can still act on it. You cannot. Buying property in Spain has not given a right of residence to a new applicant since 3 April 2025, and no amount of investment creates one under the former provisions.
Canreach Global does not open new files under the repealed investor provisions. What we do is tell you honestly where you stand, assess the three Spanish routes we work with, and compare them with European residence-by-investment programs that remain open.

Existing holders
If you already hold a Spanish investor residence
Canreach Global does not act on existing Spanish investor permit files. We do not take transitional cases and we do not take renewals, and we do not advise on permits granted or applications filed under the repealed provisions.
- If you hold a permit granted before 3 April 2025, or filed an application before that date, please take the file to a Spanish immigration lawyer.
- Transitional and renewal questions are decided under Spanish law, against your original filing, your grant and the current status of the qualifying investment. They need a Spanish legal answer, and they should have one well before a deadline forces the decision.
- Be cautious of anyone who tells you the outcome of a transitional or renewal case before that review has been done.
What we can look at with you is the road ahead. If your circumstances now point to one of the three Spanish routes below, or to a live European residence-by-investment program, that is a conversation we are glad to have.
Open routes
Alternative routes to living in Spain
Spain did not close its borders. It closed one category. Canreach Global works with three Spanish residence routes, and each is granted on your circumstances rather than on an investment amount. None of them is an investor visa, and none of them carries a published investment threshold that you can simply meet and qualify.
Digital nomad visa
For people who already work remotely for employers or clients outside Spain and want to live in Spain while they keep that work. It suits salaried remote employees and independent professionals whose income does not depend on the Spanish labour market.
Entrepreneur residence authorisation
For founders bringing a business project to Spain and building it here. It suits applicants whose case rests on the project itself, because the project is what is assessed.
Working visa
For applicants moving to Spain to take up a role with a Spanish employer. It suits professionals who have, or are close to having, a job offer in Spain.
We do not publish requirements, income levels or fees for these routes. They are set by Spanish rules that change, and we confirm the current position for the route that fits you rather than putting figures on a page that may be out of date by the time you read them.
The honest starting point is that these routes ask a different question from an investor visa. An investor visa asked what you could invest. These ask what you do and who you do it for. That is why the assessment comes first and the route comes second.
Related programs
Other European residence-by-investment programs
If your goal was European residence through investment rather than Spain specifically, two programs in our launch set remain open to new applicants.

Portugal Golden Visa (ARI)
A renewable European Union residence permit through qualifying fund, research, cultural, job-creation or company investment, with a low minimum stay. Read the Portugal Golden Visa page.

Cyprus Permanent Residency by Investment
Expedited permanent residence in an EU member state under Regulation 6(2), built around a qualifying investment plus a secure annual income. Read the Cyprus Permanent Residency page.

Both are live programs with their own rules, costs and conditions, and both are subject to change. We compare them against your goals rather than assuming that the closest substitute for Spain is the right answer.
Step by step
How we help
We confirm the current status
We do not open a new case under the former investor provisions, because those provisions no longer exist.
We are clear about what we do not take on
Canreach Global does not act on existing Spanish investor permit files, including transitional and renewal cases, and we will point you to Spanish legal advice instead.
We assess the three Spanish routes we work with
The digital nomad visa, the entrepreneur residence authorisation and the working visa, weighed against your actual professional and family circumstances.
We compare the open European programs
Where the goal was European residence through investment rather than Spain itself, we set the live programs side by side with you.
Our pre-filing review
Before anything is filed we work through: nationality and residence history, family composition, criminal history, sanctions and politically exposed person screening, source and path of funds, tax advice, project due diligence where a business project is involved, translations and legalisation, government fees, and the conditions attached to the permit.
The documents you will need depend entirely on which of the three routes you pursue. We give you a route-specific checklist once the assessment identifies the right category.
